One of the most badly hurt industries in this pandemic is the wedding events sector, as experienced by singer and managing director of Weddings By TV, Tuesday Vargas.
Vargas lamented the lack of events to organize and earn from, as can be seen on her Instagram page yesterday, Sept. 19.
“I was in Tagaytay for two days to organize a wedding that has been postponed [three] times, [three] years in the making and has transferred to almost [three] venues,” she said. “We are just finishing up old contracts and getting by with little or almost no new projects coming in. That means a lot of us do not earn as we used to compared to when our field was thriving.”
She recalled that before the pandemic, especially during the “ber” months, she and her team would always be out working, not able to see their families, and be really exhausted from back-to-back schedules.
“But the money was good, so no complaints; grind grind grind till we can’t take it no more,” she said. “Now, you are lucky if you do at least one event a month, sometimes no projects at all.”

Vargas then shared that she started to pivot and put her little savings to “other opportunities.”
“There are days when I tell myself that I can bear it all, those are good days that remind me to be grateful despite the many challenges thrown at me. But there are also days that I just want to hide under a blanket and wish all of this away. If only we can stay there in the dark and just foolishly hope,” she said.
Although beset with these problems, Vargas tries to keep herself afloat and spread some hope.
“To anyone who is reading this and who is feeling down in the dumps by all the madness around you, I want you to know that I feel you and that you are not alone,” she said. “Nothing is permanent, not even what you are feeling now. Keep that spark, keep the faith.” JB
