The sun was already up, and the roads around España Boulevard were already cleared of floods earlier Thursday when I decided to take a few snaps of Typhoon Carina’s aftermath around the area. Not much to see from my side along G. Tolentino Street so I walked near Padre Campa area to check for flood-affected stores and restaurants, but all of them were closed.

Jemmy Olegario, 73, and his wife Nora took refuge along a coastal road in Barangay San Miguel in this town after their home near the Pamatawan River was flooded by heavy rainfall on Wednesday, July 24, at the height of Typhoon Carina.

The F. Manalo Bridge in Pasig City was temporarily closed after it was hit by barges swept by the strong current of the Marikina River on Wednesday at the height of bad weather caused by Typhoon Carina and the enhanced southwest monsoon.

Sen. Imee Marcos defended Vice President Sara Duterte, who was criticized for leaving the country amid a calamity. Duterte and her family left the country early Wednesday morning while many areas were grappling with the devastation caused by the effects of Supertyphoon Carina and the fortified southwest monsoon.

Some roads in Metro Manila remained flooded on Thursday due to the heavy rains triggered by the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” and enhanced by Typhoon Carina.

Typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi) exited the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Thursday morning, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Portions of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) which were previously flooded due to torrential rains are now passable, live video footage from NLEx Corporation on Thursday morning showed.

There are 143 local and international flights into and from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) that were canceled due to bad weather brought by Typhoon Carina, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said on Thursday morning.

The Marikina River is now at first alarm, Marikina City’s Public Information Office (Marikina PIO) announced on Thursday morning.

Flooding and landslides, along with strong winds are still possible in different parts of Luzon despite Typhoon Carina leaving the PAR, the state weather bureau warned on Wednesday night.

In its latest weather advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) stated that a red or torrential heavy rainfall warning is still raised over Ilocos Sur, Benguet, La Union, and Pangasinan—indicating that evacuation is advised, as serious flooding is expected.

Carina has weakened and was reclassified as a typhoon-category cyclone although it is still expected to intensify the southwest monsoon or habagat, state meteorologists said on Wednesday night.

Water levels at the Marikina River have been gradually receding, although it is still at the third alarm as of Wednesday night, data from the Marikina City’s Public Information Office (Marikina PIO) showed.

At least 164 have been stranded in Camarines Sur and Masbate ports at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, due to Typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi).

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Bicol) said most stranded passengers were in Pasacao port, where 110 of them and four rolling cargoes were not permitted to travel.

Typhoon Carina further intensified on Wednesday morning and is expected to make landfall in Taiwan in the afternoon or evening, the state weather bureau said.

As of 11:00 a.m., Carina was last spotted 345 kilometers north-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes. Classes at all levels in both public and private schools in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Rizal provinces were suspended on Wednesday, July 24, due to bad weather brought by Typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi) and southwest monsoon.

The state weather bureau on Wednesday raised a red rainfall warning over Metro Manila and surrounding provinces with serious flooding expected in flood-prone areas.

In a rainfall advisory issued at 5:00 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the red warning level is up over Metro Manila, Rizal and Bataan due to Typhoon Carina-enhanced southwest monsoon.

Several flights on Wednesday were canceled due to heavy rains caused by Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon, said the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).

Typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi) has intensified further intensified while heading towards Taiwan, the state weather bureau said early Wednesday morning.

In its 5:00 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Carina is expected to steadily intensify and may reach its peak intensity prior to its landfall over Taiwan “due to favorable environment.”

Classes in all levels and work in most government offices in Metro Manila are suspended on Wednesday due to inclement weather, according to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).

“In view of the forecasted continuous rainfall brought about by the Southwest Monsoon and Typhoon “Carina,” work in government offices and classes at all levels in the National Capital Region are hereby suspended at 05:00 a.m. today, 24 July 2024, as recommended by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council,” the PCO said in an early morning bulletin.
