PNP to reassign cops with relatives running in the 2025 elections

MANILA, Philippines — Police personnel and officers who have relatives running for 2025 National and Local Elections will be reassigned, according to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Marbil.

Marbil said he likewise reminded police personnel to remain apolitical during the campaign and election period.

“They should not be assigned to areas where their relatives are running. It’s in our laws that they should not be used for those things,” the PNP chief said in an ambush interview in Pampanga.

“We have to remain apolitical and we should not be biased. It’s only right for us to remove or reassign police officers from areas where their relatives will run for the upcoming polls,” he stressed.

Last barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, the PNP explained that the reassignment process of personnel with blood ties to candidates is a “normal practice” within the police force to prevent cops from being used by politicians to earn favor during polls.

During that time, the PNP reassigned 2,800 police officers.
