Ka Leody sees stronger anti-political dynasty mood in 2025 polls
MANILA, Philippines — Anti-political dynasty sentiments may prevail in the 20256 midterm elections, labor leader and senatorial aspirant Leody De Guzman said on Friday.
De Guzman pointed out that the people are getting tired of the same names and clans holding different positions in government.
“We think that anti-dynasty sentiments will emerge in the 2025 elections because we feel and see how political dynasties gain a grip of positions in the Senate and other levels of government,” De Guzman told reporters in a Filipino after filing his certificate of candidacy (COC).
De Guzman added that one of his realizations after he lost in his presidential bid in 2022 polls is that the anti-dynasty movements are getting stronger.
In the 2022 elections, De Guzman placed eighth in the presidential race.

“We have to curb the power of these trapos and dynasties. We must pass an anti-dynasty law. That is long overdue. The constitution orders that we must act an anti-dynasty law,” said lawyer Luke Espiritu, who, together with De Guzman, likewise filed his COC for senator.
Espiritu also mentioned that Gen Z and more youth are denouncing injustices, as well as the prevailing political dynasties.
“Our future is not the trapo (traditional politician). Our future is not rude. Our future is in violence and killing, Our future does not have to be new. And we can bring that future into… and we will make it possible this time.)
