MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will release the remaining list of nuisance candidates for the Senate this week, polls chief George Erwin Garcia said on Tuesday

According to Garcia, the commission is still resolving the cases through hearings and allowing the aspirants to respond to the petitions declaring them nuisance candidates.

“Ngayong linggong ito, asahan niyo massive ilalabas ang sa 117 na mga kandidato sa senador, yung aspirants… So asahan niyo by Friday, mailalabas yung 67 na ‘yon at aalamin kung may makakasama ba sa 66 na kinoconsider natin na valid, legitimate aspirants para sa 2025 senatorial elections,” said Garcia on the sidelines of the signing of memorandum of agreement of Comelec and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

“’Yun po ang kadahilanan kung bakit during the hearing ng panukalang batas sa pagpopostpone ng Bangsamoro parliamentary elections, ipinakiusap natin na sana bago mag December 13, ay may development sa issue na yan para mafinalize namin ‘yung listahan ng kandidato and at the same time ‘yung ballot faces na napakadami naming gagawin,” Garcia noted.

(That is the reason why during the hearing on the proposed bill to postpone the Bangsamoro parliamentary elections, we  appealed that, hopefully, before December 13, there will be progress on this issue so we can finalize the list of candidates and, at the same time, the ballot faces, which we need to prepare in large numbers.)
