PNP rolls out 100-day election security plan

Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rommel Marbil laid out a 100-day security plan on Friday to ensure peaceful and secured midterm elections on May 12.
Marbil, whose term was extended by President Marcos until June 7 this year, said the plan would prioritize the deployment of personnel in election hot spots, regular checkpoints and intensified intelligence operations.
The plan, according to him, includes heightened police visibility, strategic personnel deployment and strengthened coordination with other law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
Marbil was originally scheduled to retire on Feb. 7, upon turning 56.
“We are entering a critical period where vigilance and proactive policing are paramount. Our 100-day security plan is designed to ensure that every voting center is protected, every threat is addressed, and every citizen can cast their vote without fear,” he said.
“This mission is not separate from our ongoing efforts—it is an extension of our commitment to keeping the nation safe,” he added.
Public involvement
He pointed out that while election security would take center stage, he said the PNP would not lose sight of its broader responsibilities in crime prevention, antidrug operations and counterterrorism efforts.
“The PNP will also focus on dismantling private armed groups, pursuing wanted persons, and intensifying operations against loose firearms,” he said.
He also called on the public to be “actively involved in maintaining the integrity of the elections by reporting any suspicious activities or election-related violations through hotlines and social media channels.”
“Let me be clear: while we are fully committed to ensuring the success of the elections, the safety of our people remains our top priority. Our fight against crime, illegal drugs and terrorism will continue with the same intensity and determination,” he said.
