MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday said that it is monitoring the presence of spliced videos propagating false information on the internet for the 2025 campaign period.
Police Col. Randulf Tuaño, acting chief of the PNP Public Information Office, said that the PNP considers spliced videos as a problem it is facing.
Tuaño recalled an incident where a spliced video claimed that personnel from the PNP and Armed Forces of the Philippines will no longer undergo mandatory drug testing. He then said the Anti-cybercrime Group was able to identify the source in 30 minutes.

“Nagsimula na po yun sa kampanya at ang mangyayari, dahil walang batas na nagpaparusa sa ganitong gawain, ang ginagawa po ng Anti-cybercrime Group ay bantayan,” Tuaño said in a press conference.
(It started in the campaign and because there is no law penalizing this kind of act, the Anti-cybercrime Group is monitoring this.)
Tuaño also said that the PNP conducts cyber patrolling 24/7 to monitor spliced videos and misleading contents. He noted that the police body will continue to check and verify spliced videos.
“Mananatili ang PNP na magpalabas ng press statement o press releases para sagutin yung mga nagpapakalat ng fake news sa pamamagitan ng spliced videos at misleading videos,” Tuaño added.
(The PNP will continue to issue press statements or press releases to answer the spreading of fake news through spliced and misleading videos.)
Further, Commission on Elections Chairman George Erwin Garcia said in the same press conference that the poll body is monitoring the online presence of candidates as part of the digital election campaign.
