ILOILO CITY, Philippines —The administration’s Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas is the only group ready to lead, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said here on Thursday as he took some jabs at opposing senatorial slates.

“When we look at other parties, they are stumbling to find candidates and they are struggling to find members. They don’t understand why our alliance was able to complete its lineup,” the president said.

“There’s an easy answer for that. That’s because the alliance is the only political group in this election with a stand. They’re not just uniting to help each other get elected. They have a stance — and that is to help everyone together and do everything to improve the lives of every Filipino and make the Philippines better,” he added.

Marcos made the statement at the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas proclamation rally at the Iloilo City Center on Thursday.

He said the candidates on their lineup would be the only ones ready at the beginning of their terms on June 30.

He cited the experience of the administration-backed lineup, which includes current and former senators, local and national government officials, and incumbent representatives.

“When you compare our candidates to others, you cannot say that any of them is better than ours for the Senate. When we scrutinize our candidates, they have good [and] vibrant [experience] and they are competent,” he said.

“On the first day that they sit in the Senate, they will not need to go on OJT [on-the-job training]. They already know the work. They already know what to do,” he added.

“Not one of them was involved in tokhang. Not one of them was involved in abuses and corruption or took advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic. Not one of them tried to be close to China,” he went on.
