MANILA, Philippines — President Bongbong Marcos on Thursday said his 12-man senatorial slate believes there’s no need to cling on illegal industries, like Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators, for Filipinos to prosper.

Marcos made the remark at the Alyansa’s rally in Dumaguete in preparation for the midterm elections in May.

“In terms of economy and jobs, we do not need to rely on illegal industries like POGOs, which have become breeding grounds for crime and violence,” said Marcos in Filipino.

“The solution is real jobs, decent wages, and support for small businesses,” he added in Filipino.

President Ferdinand Marcos, during his third State of the Nation Address in July, ordered the ban of all Pogos in the Philippines.

He then subsequently ordered Pagcor to wind down and seize the operations of these firms by the end of 2024.

But since Marcos ordered the ban, reports came in that Pogo hubs have begun resorting to various ways on how they can conceal their operations. Some even pretend to be business process outsourcing firms.
