MANILA, Philippines — Doctor and vlogger Willie Ong, who is battling abdominal cancer, has completed six cycles of chemotherapy sessions, according to his wife.
Dr. Liza Ong shared the “good news” on Friday after she filed her husband’s statement of withdrawal from the senatorial race.

“Doc has finished chemotherapy. We’re now proceeding with immunotherapy and targeted therapy,” Liza told reporters.

According to the website of the National Cancer Institute of the United States, chemotherapy stops the growth of cancer and other fast-growing cells.
Health experts say targeted therapy uses targeted medicines, while the Philippine Society of Medical Oncology says immunotherapy helps boost the body’s natural defense mechanism to fight cancer.
“His previous 100 percent sarcoma has now been reduced to just 10 to 15 percent based on our last PET scan. We’ll have another PET scan in two weeks, and hopefully, it will be completely gone by then,” Liza said.
She added that the remaining 10 to 15 percent are the active cells of the nerve sheath of sarcoma.
His wife also said that it took a long time for him to decide on his candidacy withdrawal.
“Doc Willie withdrew because he still had remaining sessions. He doesn’t want the public to be short-changed,” she added.
