MANILA, Philippines — Incumbent Makati Mayor and aspiring senator Abby Binay has vowed to become the people’s “voice in the Senate,” citing her firsthand experience in local government.
Binay made the pronouncement as she noted her own experience as a local chief executive addressing the basic needs of her constituents.
“Ako po ang magiging boses ninyo pagdating sa Senado (I will be your voice when I become part of the Senate),” Binay said in recently held press conference.
“Alam ko po yung mga problema ninyo (I know your problems). I can totally relate to your daily problems and I know your concerns and your issues,” she added.
Binay then stated that along with her fellow candidates in the administration’s slate “Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas,” President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. personally chose her based on her track record and accomplishments.
“If you notice in the speech of the President, consistently sinasabi niya — ilan sa amin abugado, ilan sa amin ang congressman, ilan sa amin ang mayroong experience sa government (he constantly says — some of us are lawyers, some of us are congressmen, some of us have experience in government),” said Binay.

“We are chosen based on our track record, based on our qualities, our capabilities, or what kind of service we can give to the government,” she added.
According to Binay, her key priorities in the Senate include free maintenance medicines for senior citizens, improved early childhood education with better-trained daycare teachers, and tax-free bonuses and overtime pay for workers.
