MANILA, Philippines – Camille Villar underscored the role of barangay officials in nation-building during her recent interaction with them in General Trias, Cavite.
With the barangay leaders, she said the government is able to reach as many constituents for implementation of projects in the country’s 42,000 barangays.

“You are the real nation-builders! Napakalaki ng pasasalamat namin dahil sa inyong kahusayan bilang mga Sangguniang Barangay ay tuloy-tuloy ang pag-angat ng buhay ng ating mga kababayan – kayo na nakatutok sa araw-araw na pangangailangan ng ating mgakababayan, napakalaki po ng role na ginagampanan ninyo sa ating governance,” Villar said before the Liga ng mga Barangay in Cavite last Monday, Feb. 24, 2025.
(You are the real nation-builders! We are deeply grateful for your excellence as Barangay Councils, as the lives of our fellow citizens continue to improve. You, who are focused on the daily needs of our people, play a very significant role in our governance.)
A two-term representative of Las Piñas, Villar said she understands the barangay officials’ crucial role in local governance, community development, law enforcement and public safety.
Government projects reach the grassroots level through the network of barangays nationwide, she added.
“Naintindihan ko po ang bigat ng inyong trabaho dahil ako man pag bumababa sa distrito sa amin sa Las Pinas, dama ko yung mga araw-araw na challenges na kinakaharap ng ating mga kababayan at yan ang nagtutulak sa akin para pagbutihin ang aking trabaho at pagseserbisyo-publiko,” added Villar, who is presenting her self as a millennial leader in the Senate in the coming May 2025 polls.
(I understand the weight of your work because when I visit our district in Las Piñas, I feel the daily challenges our fellow citizens face. That’s what drives me to improve my work and public service.)
Citing the tremendous hardwork and perseverance that barangays executives pour into the implementation of livelihood projects, healthcare services and education, Villar said she gets inspiration from them to do better in terms of public service.
“Kaya nga po, iyan din ang inspirasyon ko para maghangad at mangarap na mas makatulong pa sa mas madami nating kababayan,” she added.
(That’s why, that is also my inspiration to strive and dream of helping more of our fellow citizens.)
