‘It’s our failure’, Garcia says of Showtime contestant clueless on Comelec

The onus is now on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to educate a Showtime contestant who feigned no knowledge of the poll body, its chairman George Erwin Garcia said on Monday.

MANILA, Philippines — The onus is now on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to educate a Showtime contestant who feigned no knowledge of the poll body, its chairman George Erwin Garcia said on Monday.

“We fully understand her,” Garcia told reporters in a Viber message.

“It is our solemn duty to explain who we are and what we are doing,” he added.

On Friday, Vice Ganda, alongside his co-hosts, asked Heart Aquino, a candidate in a beauty pageant segment, what her message toward Comelec.

Aquino, however, said that she is not knowledgeable about Comelec.

To which Vice Ganda said: “Oh my gosh, that is bothersome.”

After this, Garcia said they invited Aquino to come to their event in Pampanga on Tuesday to brief her about the duties of the poll body.

“If she is converted as a believer, then we can perhaps do the same for others, Garcia said. “Voter’s education is the key.”

“It is our failure,” he added. “We have to immediately rectify.”
