Abby Binay to voters: Look beyond political parties, trust the process

TACLOBAN CITY – Senatorial candidate and Makati Mayor Abby Binay on Friday urged voters to look beyond the political affiliations of candidates and consider what they can do as senators.
Binay made statement when asked about the possible political repercussions of the arrest and detention of former president Rodrigo Duterte at the Hague.
Senatorial candidate and Makati Mayor Abby Binay is welcomed by Palo Mayor Remedios Petilla and municipal employees at the Palo, Leyte Municipal Hall Friday.
“Go beyond whether we are pro-Marcos or pro-Duterte…What do we stand for? What could we bring to the table? Ano ba ang tinatayuan namin? Hindi po pwedeng, ‘Ah kasi nakadikit ka dito, ayaw ko sa iyo,’” she said.
Binay also said she believes the International Criminial Court (ICC) will be fair and impartial in deciding on the case filed against Duterte for alleged crimes against humanity in connection with the anti-drug campaign during his time as Davao City mayor and president.
“I think we have to trust the ICC. We have to trust the process,” she said.
“Sana bigyan natin ng pagkakataon iyong ICC. Alam naman natin na magiging patas. Hindi naman sinasabi na guilty siya. Kaya nga may proseso. Kaya ng may trial. Bigyan natin iyon ng pagkakataon,” she added.
Binay also said the current political mood reminded her of the heated debates over the Reproductive Health Law when she was a member of the House of Representatives.
“It’s either you are Pro-RH or you are Pro-Life. Parang ganyan din po iyong nangyari sa RH bill noon. It is beyond that. Yes, we are part of the administration, but we are individuals in a group,” she said.
“At the end of the day, ang gusto po natin, sabi ko nga sa inyo, ano ba ang pwede naming ibigay sa mga kababayan natin,” she added.
