Romualdez vows big win for Alyansa in Leyte

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — The Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial slate will get a big victory in this city and in the entire Leyte province, House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez vowed on Friday.

In a statement, Romualdez assured his cousin, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., of a victory for the ticket as Leyte remains supportive of the administration.

Marcos’s mother, former First Lady Imelda Marcos, hails from Leyte, making the province a bailiwick of the administration.

“We are promising that our president’s candidates will win big here in Tacloban City and Leyte province. We will deliver a big victory for the Alyansa ticket,” Romualdez said in Filipino.

“Our fellow Leyte residents have a wide and strong support for the president. I’m sure this will translate into votes for Alyansa candidates on May 12,” he added.

Romualdez said that in the 2022 presidential elections, Marcos got over 641,000 votes in Leyte, while his closest rival only got 99,207.

Leyte has 1.4 million registered voters.

“Leyteños consider President BBM as one of their own,” he added.

According to campaign rally organizers, around 100,000 Leyte residents participated in the rally held at Tacloban’s Plaza Libertad.

The following nine senatorial candidates attended the rally:

  • former Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos
  • Sen. Francis “Tol” Tolentino
  • Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr.
  • Sen. Lito Lapid
  • Makati City Mayor Abby Binay
  • former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III
  • former Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson
  • former Sen. Manny Pacquiao
  • ACT-CIS Rep. Erwin Tulfo.

This is the ninth campaign sortie of the Alyansa after visiting Ilocos Norte, Iloilo, and Davao del Norte during the first week of the campaign period.  The senatorial ticket next campaigned in Pasay City, Negros Occidental, and Negros Oriental, and then made a a visit to Bulacan and Camarines Sur.
