Candidates in Bohol vow fair 2025 elections
TAGBILARAN CITY — Some candidates in Bohol province have pledged for “secure, accurate, free, and fair elections” this May.
In Tagbilaran City, reelectionist Mayor Jane Yap and her rival Councilor Atoy Torralba, together with their slates, joined the Philippine National Police’s peace covenant signing held at the Saulog Gymnasium on Tuesday, March 25.
The event was attended by key stakeholders, including representatives from the Commission on Elections, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Education, Philippine Coast Guard, and various political candidates.
Of the candidates invited, Hardy Leopando (running for governor), Frans Garcia (running for board member in the second district), reelectionist Greg Jala (for board member), and Modesto Membreve (for second district representative) were present.
Lt. Col. Norman Nuez, information officer of the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO), said the signing of the covenant signifies a unified commitment to maintaining peace, order, and the integrity of the electoral process in the province.
As part of the agreement, all participants pledged to adhere strictly to election laws, refrain from violence and intimidation, promote respectful political discourse, and ensure that campaign activities remain peaceful and orderly.
The BPPO also assured the public of its unwavering dedication to ensuring a safe, secure, and honest electoral process, in line with the Philippine National Police’s mandate to uphold democracy and the rule of law.
Bohol has a voting population of 1,051,200.
