NCRPO chief vows ‘comprehensive’ security for local campaign period

MANILA, Philippines — National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin has vowed “comprehensive” security for the local campaign period for the 2025 elections.

The Metro Manila police chief promised this ahead of the start of the local campaign period on Friday, March 28.

“The NCRPO will lay out comprehensive security coverage to ensure that all activities in the campaign period will be peaceful and in accordance with the law,” Aberin said in Filipino on Tuesday.

He added that active police personnel have already been deployed to places where candidates’ supporters are expected to gather.

Aberin also said that the NCRPO would “remain neutral and apolitical” over the course of the democratic exercise.

“In this way, every Filipino will have a chance to express their vote freely and confidently,” he added.

According to data from the Commission on Elections, Metro Manila has 7,563,520 registered voters in the 2025 polls.

Comelec data also showed that 17 mayoral seats; 17 vice-mayoral seats; 274 Sangguniang Panlungsod and 12 Sangguniang Bayan seats; and 33 congressional seats are up for grabs in the capital region.
