MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday said there are four persons of interest in the killing of a provincial election officer in Maguindanao del Norte.
Comelec Provincial Election Supervisor Bai Maceda Lidasan Abo was attacked while she was on her way to her office in Barangay Dalican in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte on March 26.
She and her husband succumbed to gunshot wounds.
“We hope that, if there is any evidence linking the four individuals, the case will be filed immediately,” said Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia in an ambush interview in Manila.
Because of the incident, Garcia said Datu Odin Sinsuat would be placed under Comelec control.
The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police also approved the request of election officers in the region to provide them with armed police escorts after this deadly attack.
