1Pacman partylist commits to Panglao, Bohol reef protection

MANILA, Philippines — It couldn’t have been any better, capping Women’s Month in Panglao, Bohol, for 1PacMan partylist first nominee Milka Romero.

Surrounded by the sea and hosting many of the country’s best dive spots, Panglao Island presented to Romero the opportunity to voice out 1Pacman’s deep regard for coral reef protection while enabling residents to have flourishing sustainable livelihood.

Romero, who spearheads the national movement for sports and youth development under 1Pacman Party List, has gone around the Philippines playing for the national women’s football team and was co-captain of the Ateneo women’s football team in her college days.

Panglao holds a special place in her heart, she said, awed by its natural offerings. 

“I love our reefs and we want to help protect it,” she told townsfolk that gathered for the proclamation rally of Abante Panglao in the presence of leaders and aspirants headed Bohol district one congressional aspirant and former Tagbilaran Mayor Baba Yap.

A vital component of continued protection of the reefs is the provision of more employment opportunities for residents, inclusive of well-managed tourism programs.

1Pacman Party-list, which is vigorously endorsed by “Asenso Pa More” leaders Baba Yap and Mayor Jane Yap, is aligned with Bohol and Tagbilaran leadership’s program for increased infrastructure, health services, and educational outreach. 

Romero echoed 1Pacman’s resolve to double with LGUs their drive for faster and improved public service.

“Dagdag pa sa maipapaabot ng district congressman ang pondong mailalaan ng sectoral congressmen na galing sa 1Pacman para sa serbisyo publiko,” said Romero, who has experience running socio-civic programs of 1Pacman as its party-list chairman.

Romero, 32 , takes over the helm of 1Pacman when her father, three-termer Rep. Mikee Romero, ends his ninth consecutive year in Congress this coming June, leaving a legacy of 144 laws authored and sponsored, and a sterling outreach record of some 30,000 scholarships, and a similar number of medical assistance.

In his last term, serving as chairman of the House Committee on Poverty Alleviation, Rep. Romero successfully obtained an increase of P7 billion for the 2025 allocation for the Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program or 4Ps.
