MANILA, Philippines —Pasig congressional candidate Christian “Ian” Sia is facing another show-cause order from the Commission on Elections (Comelec), this time asking him to explain his remarks about his assistant’s physical appearance.

“The one in Pasig, we are going to issue a show cause order today against him because of his statement directed to his assistant,” Comelec Chair George Erwin Garcia said over ANC on Tuesday.

“Atty. Sia made the remarks, he called his assistant, he mentioned something about her physical situation,” he added.

Garcia noted that the assistant did not file a case, but the poll body’s anti-discrimination task force could still file a complaint.

The Comelec issued Sia’s first show-cause order against Sia, the deadline for which is on Monday.

Sia’s joke about offering himself to single mothers, especially “menstruating” ones, is the subject of the first show-cause order.

As of Tuesday morning, Sia has yet to respond to the show-cause order. If he remains unresponsive, the Comelec will deem it as a waiver for his right to be heard.

Sia has apologized for his remarks, but Garcia said this is not enough, adding that he should respond to the show-cause order.
