PH soldiers reminded to be non-partisan as elections draw near

ILIGAN CITY Soldiers should keep away from partisan ties and activities as political dynamics take shape in the run-up to the midterm elections.

This was the reminder issued by Major General Yegor Rey Barroquillo Jr., commander of the Army’s 1st Infantry Division, as he visited local commands based in Marawi and Iligan cities recently.

“This is the marching order to all military troops as the midterm elections draw near,” Baroquillo said.

The troops, according to him, must busy themselves with supporting the Commission on Elections and in preventing the proliferation of loose firearms to ensure the peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections on May 12.

Barroquillo also said the Army is monitoring and verifying reports of private armed groups within its area of responsibility.

He recently visited the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade based in Maria Cristina, Iligan City and the 103rd Infantry Brigade in Kampo Ranao, Marawi City.

Meanwhile, Police Colonel Roy Magsalay, Lanao del Norte police director, said his troops are keeping constant watch against the transport of illegal weapons through the operation of checkpoints, especially along the national highway.
