Isko Moreno’s health initiatives received praise from Manila residents
Manila residents have lauded the health initiatives of their former Mayor Isko Moreno, who is seeking a mayoral comeback in the 2025 elections.
In a post shared by Moreno on his Facebook page, a photo showed him holding a cellphone displaying a message from a child: “Yorme, maraming salamat sa gamot na Remdesivir. Dinugtungan mo buhay ng nanay ko!”
(Yorme, thank you so much for the Remdesivir medicine. You extended my mother’s life!)
“Yorme” is a nickname derived from mayor, Moreno’s former position.
According to Moreno, the child’s message is just one of many testimonies highlighting the positive impact of the city government’s distribution of free medication during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his post, Moreno said: “Salamat sa Diyos nakaraos tayo sa pandemyang iyon. Lagi ko ngang sinasabi noon: pumanatag kayo mga Batang Maynila, may gobyerno kayong masasandalan… Kahit mamahaling gamot at mahirap pa hanapin sa buong mundo, bibilhin natin madugtungan lang ang buhay ng tao.”
(Thank God we made it through that pandemic. I always used to say back then: stay calm, Batang Maynila — you have a government you can rely on. Even if it’s expensive medicine and hard to find anywhere in the world, we’ll buy it — just to extend a person’s life.)
The former mayor also noted that only Manila had the resources to procure costly COVID-19 medications like Remdesivir, Molnupiravir, and Tocilizumab during the pandemic. These medicines were distributed for free to anyone in need, regardless of their residency in Manila.
The post has since garnered thousands of reactions from netizens who expressed their gratitude and support for Domagoso’s leadership.
As the May elections draw near, Moreno has maintained his lead in the Manila mayoralty surveys, with recent surveys showing him as the frontrunner with 74% voter support, according to Octa Research. Similar results were seen in earlier surveys by SWS, HKPH, and other research firms.
