MANILA, Philippines — The petition for disqualification filed against reelectionist Pasig City mayor Vico Sotto has been dismissed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Sotto said the petition was filed by Curlee Discaya against him last Jan. 28 over the alleged misinformation in his letter to Comelec.

Discaya is the husband of Sarah Discaya, who is Sotto’s rival in the Pasig mayoral post.

The Comelec Second Division dismissed the petition on March 4, according to the document shared by Sotto.

“I post about this because the people have a right to know the truth,” Sotto said on his Facebook page on Monday night.

In October last year, Sotto had urged Comelec to act against his rival Sarah Discaya over what he deemed as a “conflict of interest” due to her stake in a company formerly linked in a joint venture with the election service provider for the 2025 polls.

Sotto also said that he should be the one filing a disqualification against Discaya’s husband Curlee, who is the second nominee of  Pinoy AKO (Adhikain ng Katutubo at Obrero) Party-list group. The first nominee of the party-list group is Christian Cruz, who happens to be the brother of Sara.

Sotto claimed that Curlee allegedly used his British passport only in 2025.

“To affirm your British citizenship by using your UK/British passport AFTER filing your certificate of candidacy constitutes a continuing ‘act of allegiance’ to a foreign state, and is not allowed under Philippine election law,” Sotto pointed out.

INQUIRER.net sought the comment of Mr. Discaya but he has not yet responded as of this posting.

But despite this, Sotto said he opted not to file the disqualification case against his rival’s husband.

“Why? Because I don’t want anyone in their camp to be disqualified. We need to show to them that in Pasig, we have broken the cycle of huge election spending, traditional politics, and corruption,” Sotto further said.
