SAN FERNANDO CITY, Pampanga — Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. courted voters in Pampanga, even granting a resident’s wish for a kiss. He would later say he’s okay with “lips-to-lips” kiss.
During the local sortie at the Bren Guiao Convention Center, Revilla was talking about his platform when he saw a rally attendee asking for a lips-to-lips through a placard.
“And to all of you here—I will remove my shades so I can see what they wrote—later, I will kiss you lips to lips. You too,” Revilla jokingly said in Filipino.
“Noon pa man, at kahit kailan, hindi ako pinababayaan ng mga kababayan ko dito sa Pampanga. Magmula noong una akong tumakbo bilang senador, naramdaman ko na ang buong suporta ninyo. Kaya habang may pagkakataon ako, ibabalik ko sa inyong lahat ang aking walang humpay na pagmamahal at serbisyo. For me, Pampanga never forgot Bong Revilla, that’s why to Governor Delta (Pineda), I have always told him and Nanay (Lilia Pineda) that whatever Bong Revilla can do for Pampanga, I will support you,” he added.
At the end of his speech, Revilla said that the crowd was already asking him to fulfill his promise for a lips-to-lips.
Smothered by supporters
Eventually, Revilla was smothered by supporters of Pampanga’s incumbent officials with kisses.
While Revilla was not the one who initiated discussions about the kiss, discussions about raunchy topics during campaign sorties have caught the eye of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Recently, a number of candidates were caught red-handed making sexist jokes just to attract the attention of voters— prompting the Comelec to issue show-cause orders against them.
Early April, several personalities and officials called out Pasig City congressional aspirant Ian Sia over his statements in a campaign sortie that lonely single mothers who still have menstruation can have sex with him.

However, Sia claimed the issue was blown out of proportion by his opponents. But after that incident, Comelec again asked Sia to explain his words—this time due to his remarks about his assistant’s physical appearance.

In hot waters
Misamis Oriental Governor Peter Unabia, who is seeking reelection, also found himself in hot waters for saying that only beautiful women should be qualified to be a nurse, as ugly ones would only make patients remain unwell.
Unabia also claimed that if his ticket loses in the midterm polls, Maranaos would dominate the province and its capital Cagayan de Oro City, allegedly bringing in security instability just like in the Bangsamoro region.
The Comelec issued a show-cause order also for Unabia.

Another show-cause order was issued against Davao de Oro 2nd District Rep. Ruwel Peter Gonzaga, who is running for the province’s gubernatorial post, after he made misogynistic remarks against a widow — ordering board member candidate Nene Atamosa to stand in front of a crowd with a certain village councilor, before asking the two to kiss.
The lawmaker also made lewd remarks to Atamosa.

Former assistant secretary and now aspiring Manila councilor Mocha Uson also was asked by the poll body to explain her campaign jingle entitled “Cookie ni Mocha.”
Uson, a key figure during former president Rodrigo Duterte’s tenure, is now running under the ticket of Manila mayoral candidate Isko Moreno. Even before the official start of the local campaign period, Uson had used her campaign jingle by giving out cookies and asking people how Mocha’s cookie tasted.
