Ex-Pres. Duterte endorses Ariel Querubin for senator

MANILA, Philippines — Former President Rodrigo Duterte has endorsed the Senate bid of Medal of Valor awardee and independent senatorial candidate Ariel Querubin.
Querubin himself broke the news on Thursday, thanking Duterte and calling his endorsement “meaningful for soldiers like him who served in Mindanao.”
“Gusto ko pong magpabatid ng aking pasasalamat sa ating dating presidente Rodrigo Roa Duterte,” Querubin said in a statement.

In 2023, Querubin disclosed that the former chief executive told him that the people need someone like him.
Citing reports, the senatorial candidate said Duterte’s endorsement was announced by his eldest son, Davao City Representative Paolo Duterte.
Querubin hogged the headlines in 2006, for his role in a standoff at the Marines headquarters as he tried to protect military officers from being removed from service after a foiled coup against then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo following the “Hello Garci” scandal.
