Group hopes support for teachers serving as poll inspectors will go on

Fake pro-Duterte social media accounts, which reportedly affect this year’s elections, are undermining Philippine democracy and a threat to voters, according to lawmakers.

DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan — A party-list group hopes the support given to teachers who will be working during the 2025 midterm elections will continue.

Trabaho party-list, in a statement on Thursday, said it supports the initiatives from the Department of Education (DepEd) for teachers who will perform as members of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEI).

According to Trabaho Party-list Spokesperson Mitchell-David Espiritu, this is in line with their goal of uplifting the status of the Filipino workforce.

“The party supports the directive to increase the Service Recognition Incentive (SRI) for an estimated 1,011,800 DepEd personnel from the current P18,000 to P20,000, as ordered by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.,” Espiritu said.

As early as November 2024, Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) officials said they were able to secure “significant commitments” from Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairperson George Garcia to increase the benefits and incentives for teachers who will serve in the midterm elections.

Comelec also approved a proposal to increase to 10 days the service credits of teachers and government employees who will serve as BEI members, supervisors and support staff during the upcoming polls.
