DILG calls on LGUs to open daycare, health centers on election day

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) called upon local government units (LGUs) to open their daycare and health centers on election day.

The appeal was made by DILG Undersecretary for Local Government Marlo Iringan in a press conference at their headquarters in Quezon City on Friday.

“We are especially giving advisories to our local governments to follow the Comelec directive in the coming election to open their daycare centers. That way, mothers can bring their children there to vote orderly,” Iringan said in Filipino.

“This includes opening their health centers to respond to any eventuality or any event that might happen during the elections,” he added.

According to Comelec data, 68,431,965 registered voters are expected to cast their votes in 37,528 voting centers across the country this May 12.
