Comelec sets 2025 Barangay/SK elections for Dec. 1

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has released the prescribed calendar of activities for the 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

According to Comelec Resolution No. 11132 promulgated on April 21, the Comelec scheduled the 2025 BSKE on December 1, Monday. Casting of votes will run from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. where counting and canvassing of votes will immediately take place after the closing of polling precincts.

The poll body has also set the election period from October 21, Monday to December 31, Wednesday. During this period, carrying or transporting firearms and other deadly weapons are prohibited.

Other prohibited activities during the election period are: candidates’ use of security personnel or bodyguards, unless authorized; alteration of territory of a precinct or establishment of a new precinct; fundraising through lotteries, cockfights, etc; gambling upon election result; threatening any election officer; illegal release of prisoners before and after elections; transfer or detail of officers and employees in civil service, including public school teachers; organization or maintenance of reaction forces; and suspension of local elective officials.

Meanwhile, aspiring BSKE officials can file their certificates of candidacies from October 1, Wednesday to October 7, Tuesday. BSKE candidates will be given a 10-day campaign period from November 20, Thursday to November 29, Saturday.

During the campaign period, the following acts are not allowed: removing of lawful election materials; posting or distributing illegal campaign materials; making any donation or gift in cash or in kind; appointing or using special policemen and the like; using armored land, water or air craft; and policemen and provincial guards acting as bodyguards of public officials and candidates.

The applications for registration of voters for the BSKE will run from July 1, Tuesday to July 11, Friday. Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia previously said that the short period for registration is due to the poll body handling three elections this year: The midterm elections in May; the Bangsamoro Parliamentary elections on October 13, and the BSKE on December 1.

For this period, at least 1.2 million Filipinos aged 15 to 18 years old are expected to register for the BSKE.

Other scheduled activities are:

  • July 2025 to August 2025: Updating of registration records
  • July 1 to July 11: Applications for membership to the Katipunan ng Kabataan (KK)
  • July 22: Last day to file opposition to applications for voter registrations and memberships to KK
  • July 28: Approval or disapproval of applications for voter registrations and memberships to KK
  • August 8: Last day to file requests or petitions to change, transfer, or correct name or address of voting centers
  • December 31: Last day to file Statements of Contributions and Expenditures
