Filipinos favor candidates who focus on increasing job opportunities and ensuring food security, according to the results of commissioned survey by the Social Weather Stations. — File photo

MANILA, Philippines — A commissioned Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey revealed that Filipinos are most likely to vote for a candidate whose advocacy focuses on increasing job opportunities and ensuring food security.

SWS said the survey was commissioned by the International think tank Stratbase ADR Institute, adding that the poll was held from April 11 to April 14, covering 1,800 adult respondents.

According to SWS, the national survey included questions sponsored by Stratbase Consultancy on issues or advocacies that would influence one’s decision to vote for a candidate.

As for the results, the poll revealed that 93 percent of Filipinos said they will vote for candidates who advocate for “increasing job opportunities” and “development of agriculture and ensuring food security.”

Ninety-one percent, meanwhile, said they would vote for a candidate whose advocacy would focus on strengthening the health care system, while 88 percent said they are in favor of candidates who would pave the way for better workers’ rights and welfare of Overseas Filipino workers.

Completing the list of top advocacies that adult Filipinos wish to be addressed are the following:

Reducing the poverty and hunger of Filipinos (87 percent)

Controlling the prices of basic services and goods (85 percent)

Equal access to education (85 percent)

Addressing the impacts of climate change and enhancing disaster preparedness (83 percent)

Fighting illegal drugs (80 percent)

Achievement of energy security and the usage of renewable energy (79 percent)

Defending national security and sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea (78 percent)

Eradicating graft and corruption in the government (73 percent)
