MANILA, Philippines – In a significant show of support from one of the Visayas’ most influential political figures, Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia publicly endorsed senatorial candidate Kiko Pangilinan during his visit to the province for a campaign concert last May 6.

The endorsement came as a surprise, considering Pangilinan is not part of the Alyansa slate backed by the current PBBM administration — making him the only non-Alyansa senatorial candidate to receive her backing.

“Kiko Pangilinan is the kind of person who goes out of his way to reach people,” Garcia remarked, praising his sincerity, consistency, and hands-on approach to public service.

The governor highlighted Pangilinan’s long-standing commitment to the country’s farmers, fisherfolk, and ordinary citizens — a rare quality in today’s political landscape.

This endorsement is expected to give Pangilinan a crucial boost in vote-rich Cebu, especially in the wake of the latest Octa Research and WR Numero Uno survey, which show him still within striking distance of clinching a spot in the Senate’s Magic 12.

Despite limited resources and formidable rivals, Pangilinan’s grounded leadership and quiet persistence continue to resonate with voters across the nation.

Garcia’s endorsement affirms a growing sentiment among Filipinos — that authenticity, integrity, and a proven track record matter more than noise or machinery.
