DuterTen Senate bets will be gov’t’s ‘checks and balances’ – Dela Rosa

Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa (Senate Public Relations and Information Bureau)
MANILA, Philippines — The senatorial slate backed by former President Rodrigo Duterte will serve as “checks and balances” in the government, according to Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) bet and reelectionist Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa.
He made this pronouncement at the slate’s miting de avance at the Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila on Thursday.
“Kung gusto ninyo ng magkakaroon kayo ng Senado… na independente at talagang sinusunod ang doktrina ng checks and balances na magbabantay sa mga pang-aabuso ng iba-ibang branch of government, wala kayong ibang gawin kundi iboto itong 10,” he said, referring to himself and the slate, dubbed the “DuterTen.”
(If you want to have a Senate… that’s independent and truly follows the doctrine of checks and balances that will be vigilant against the abuses of other branches of government, you have no other choice but to vote for these 10.)

Dela Rosa appealed to voters to keep in mind their campaign against drugs, criminality and corruption when casting their ballots in Monday’s polls.
“Kung tayo magkakaroon ng mga mambabatas na ang iniisip ay puro bulsa lamang, goodbye Philippines. Pero kung ayaw ninyo mag-goodbye sa Pilipinas, ang solusyon diyan, itong mga nasa likod ko, DuterTen,” the reelectionist senator added.
(If we will have lawmakers who only think about their pockets, goodbye Philippines. But if you don’t want to say goodbye to the Philippines, the solution there is those behind me, the DuterTen.)

Throughout the campaign, the Duterte-backed senatorial slate hit President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for high prices of basic goods and alleged corruption.
Once an ally of the Dutertes, Marcos teamed up with Vice President Sara Duterte to form the now-defunct UniTeam coalition, winning the 2022 elections in a landslide.
The alliance has since turned sour, especially with the impeachment case against the vice president for alleged misuse of public funds and the arrest of the former president to the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity. /jpv
