MANILA, Philippines — As the polling precincts closed at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, millions of Filipinos who cast their votes for the midterm elections eagerly await the results, which the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said won’t take long: three hours for the local race and five days for the national race.

Those results will cover 18,000 government positions — 12 senators, 254 district representatives, 63 party-list representatives, and 17,942 governors, provincial board members, and councilors.
