2 nabbed over gun ban violation after ambush try in Cebu
CEBU CITY – Police arrested two men following a foiled ambush attempt in Sitio Kabukogan, Barangay Poblacion, Sibonga town, southern Cebu, on the eve of the May 12 elections.
The suspects, whose identities were not immediately disclosed, were found in possession of a .40-caliber handgun and a 9mm pistol.
Despite claiming they were the targets of the ambush, the two were arrested for violating the election gun ban.
According to the suspects, they were riding a motorcycle when gunmen aboard a vehicle opened fire on them. They said they managed to jump off the motorcycle and flee on foot.
Police said the suspects were not authorized to carry firearms and were taken into custody for violating the Commission on Elections-imposed gun ban.
