11 arrested for liquor ban violations in Batangas

LUCENA CITY — Authorities in Batangas province arrested 11 individuals on Sunday and Monday for allegedly violating the liquor ban imposed in connection with the May 12 midterm elections, police said.
The Region 4A police said officers from Taal received a report at 2:20 a.m. Monday about a group drinking in Barangay Cawit. Responding officers found seven individuals — identified only as Angelo, Bryan, Jake, Syawi, Jay, Mandy, and Antonio — drinking gin in a garage.
In Lipa City, patrolling officers apprehended four men — Jhay, Marrion, Lance, and Jonel — drinking beer along the roadside of Barangay Marawoy.

In a separate incident in Lipa, police detained a man identified as Michael around 1 a.m. after medical staff at a local hospital reported he was intoxicated. Michael was being treated for injuries suffered in a road accident.
Meanwhile, in Balayan town, barangay watchmen arrested a man identified as Allan for drinking along a dark roadside area in Barangay Caloocan around 10:40 p.m. Sunday. He was later turned over to police.
All suspects are now in police custody and face charges for violating the election liquor ban.
The Commission on Elections implemented a nationwide liquor ban from May 11 until the end of election day on May 12 to ensure the peaceful conduct of the polls.
