Former Ako Bicol Rep. Garbin's brother-in-law proclaimed Legazpi mayor

LEGAZPI CITY, Bicol — The Commission on Elections proclaimed Hisham Ismail, brother-in-law of former Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Alfredo Garbin, as the new mayor of this city on Tuesday.

Ismail got 68,090 votes, defeating his close rival, Carmen Geraldine Rosal, wife of Albay Governor Noel Rosal, who received 61,943 votes.

Ismail is a registered nurse and the first-termer barangay captain of Cabagñan West. He is also the president of Liga ng mga Barangay Albay Chapter.

His running mate, Luis Gutierrez, was also proclaimed winner after securing 70,356 votes over former councilor Alfonso Barizo, with 52,786.

Barizo was also unseated due to a violation of the Omnibus Election Code during the 2022 elections.

Garbin replaced Rosal in November 2024./mcm
