Party list solon beats Mar Roxas' son in Capiz congressional race

MANILA, Philippines — Pinuno party-list Rep. Ivan Howard Guintu has secured the congressional seat of Capiz province’s first district, beating the son of former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas.

In a statement on Wednesday, Guintu’s office said that he had already been proclaimed by the provincial canvassing board as the winner of the elections for Capiz’s first district, getting over 130,000 votes compared to candidate Paolo Roxas’s 108,240 votes.

Guintu is an independent candidate while Roxas is a member of the province’s One Capiz party.

In a video posted on his Facebook page, Roxas said that he accepts the results of the elections, thanking people who supported and volunteered for his campaign.

Elsewhere, One Capiz dominated the local elections, with incumbent Governor Fredenil Castro securing reelection for himself, as well as that of his running-mate, incumbent Vice Governor James Magbanua.

All but one of the five winning provincial board members for Capiz’s first district were One Capiz candidates, while all five board members for the second district are from the same political party.
