PNP: Validated election-related incidents rises to 74

MANILA, Philippines — The number of election-related incidents validated by the Philippine National Police (PNP) has risen to 74, the law enforcement agency announced on Friday.
“Shooting remains the most frequent incident recorded, reaching 27,” PNP Public Information Office (PIO) Chief Col. Randulf Tuaño said at the briefing.
Tuaño also said incidents occurred in the following regions:
- Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao – 23 incidents
- Cordillera Administrative Region – 17 incidents
- Calabarzon – Nine incidents
- Zamboanga Peninsula – Five incidents
- Davao Region – Four incidents
- Central Luzon – Three incidents
- Ilocos Region – Two incidents
- Cagayan Valley – Two incidents
- Bicol Region – Two incidents
- Western Visayas – Two incidents
- Soccsksargen – Two incidents
- Negros Island Region – Two incidents
- Eastern Visayas – One incident
Meanwhile, the police were still validating 43 more suspected election-related incidents as of May 16.

Increase in vote-buying cases, gun ban arrests, liquor ban violators
Tuaño also detailed that the police recorded 43 vote-buying cases in the following areas:
- Central Visayas – 11
- Ilocos Region – Seven
- Bicol Region – Four
- Davao Region – Four
- Cagayan Valley – Three
- Calabarzon – Three
- Zamboanga Peninsula – Three
- Central Luzon – Two
- Negros Island Region – Two
- Western Visayas – One
- Eastern Visayas – One
- Cordillera Administrative Region – One
- National Capital Region – One
According to the police data, the incidents presented a 79.16-percent increase from the 24 vote-buying cases recorded during the 2023 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE).
Tuaño said there was a 72.14-percent increase in gun ban violators from 1,827 during the 2023 BSKE to 3,145 in the 2025 election period so far.
There was likewise a 54.86-percent increase in the number of firearms confiscated during the gun ban from 2,085 in the 2023 BSKE to 3,229 in the 2025 election period so far.
“This is because of our intensified campaign with the election gun ban,” Tuaño said.
Similarly, from 48 liquor ban violators during the 2023 BSKE, there were 63 violators during the 2025 election period liquor ban on May 11 and 12./mcm
