Additional P1,000 pay for poll workers in 2025 elections approved

An additional P1,000 compensation for teachers and poll workers who did essential election duties during the 2025 national and local elections (NLE) has been approved by Malacañang, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairperson George Garcia said on Friday.

MANILA, Philippines — An additional P1,000 compensation for teachers and poll workers who did essential election duties during the 2025 national and local elections (NLE) has been approved by Malacañang, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairperson George Garcia said on Friday.

Garcia shared to reporters copies of the memorandum from Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, allowing the release of P758.4 million for the additional P1,000 of 758,549 poll workers.

The amount will be charged against the contingent fund, which still has P3.910 billion according to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) letter.

The P1,000 increase is on top of the P2,000 across-the-board hike on the compensation of teachers and other poll workers serving in the 2025 NLE as this was an increase already reflected in the original budget requested by Comelec.

“We are filled with joy and gratitude with the immediate action from our beloved President regarding our request for an additional P1,000 pay for all teachers who served during the election day,” Garcia said in Filipino during a message to reporters.

“Your services and heroism are invaluable matters that the people should look up to.  Long live to our teachers!  Thank you, Mr. President, for taking care of them,” he added in Filipino.

The 2025 midterm elections has been deemed as the fastest yet in terms of canvassing, with the Comelec, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), finishing the tally of votes just three days after May 12 or the election date.

On Saturday, the 12 winning candidates for the senatorial elections will be proclaimed, after the final and official tally has been audited.

  • former Senator Bam Aquino – 20,971,899
  • Senator Ronald dela Rosa – 20,773,946
  • ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo – 17,118,881
  • former Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan – 15,343,229
  • Sagip party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta – 15,250,723
  • former Senator Panfilo Lacson – 15,106,111
  • former Senate President Vicente Sotto III – 14,832,996
  • Senator Pia Cayetano – 14,573,430
  • Deputy Speaker Camille Villar – 13,651,274
  • Senator Lito Lapid – 13,394,102
  • Senator Imee Marcos – 13,339,227

Meanwhile, Akbayan, Duterte Youth, and Tingog emerged as the first, second, and third party-list groups with the most votes:
