MANILA, Philippines — Newly proclaimed Sen. Camille Villar vowed to work “twice as hard” as she became the fourth in her family to enter the upper chamber of Congress.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) proclaimed Villar as the 10th-ranking senator with 13,651,274 votes in a ceremony at the Manila Hotel on Saturday.
“I promise that I will work twice as hard, that I will stand twice as firm, and that I will serve with all my heart and exhibit leadership,” Villar said
“Leadership is about showing up, standing up when it’s easier to play it safe, and speaking out when it’s more convenient to stay silent,” she added.
Villar’s father is former Sen. Manny Villar. Her mother is outgoing Sen. Cynthia Villar. And her brother is incumbent Sen. Mark Villar.
