Lacson said that his father was able to witness him assume his post as a Philippine National Police (PNP) chief before dying.

“His reminder to me was very simple: Fight for what is right and stand up against what is wrong. That guided me for my over 50 years of service in the government,” Lacson said in Filipino in his speech.

He said he had over 50 years of government service, 20 years of military service, 10 years of police service, and 18 years of Senate service. This will be his fourth term as a senator.

Like Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, Lacson served as a PNP chief before being elected to the Senate.
