MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Friday neither confirmed nor denied whether President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will sign the measure seeking to postpone the December 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE).

Both Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla and Commission on Elections Chairman George Erwin Garcia said that Marcos is expected to sign the measure anytime soon.

At a briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro was asked whether these statements by Remulla and Garcia are confirmed.

“If I’m not mistaken, the final deadline is around August 14, so let’s just wait and see what action the President will take regarding that bill,” Castro responded.

If ever approved, the BSKE will be moved to the first Monday of November 2026. /mr
