Comelec logs over 1.2M new voter registrations for BSKE so far

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has received over 1.2 million voter registrations for the first six days of the 10-day voters’ registration drive for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

According to the data shown by Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia to the media on Thursday, the poll body logged a total of 1,204,144 registrations from August 1 to August 6. The 222,246 registrations received on the sixth day are also the highest among the first six days.

Of the total number of registrations, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) garnered the most registrations at 154,987, followed by Central Luzon at 130,767, and the Bicol Region at 95,649.

Cordillera Administrative Region tallied the lowest number of registrations so far at 22,247. Meanwhile, the Special Register Anywhere Program (SRAP) garnered 8,642 registrations.

Garcia earlier explained that the difference in the figure from Central Luzon, with the total number of registrations decreasing from over 208,000 to the current figure, was due to the duplication in system encoding. He then said that the data was already updated in the system.

Based on the data provided for the first four days of registration, the total registrants from Central Luzon reached 208,398.

Meanwhile, Garcia on Thursday said that the 1.2 million new voter registrations exceeded the poll body’s expectations. The Comelec earlier set a goal of reaching one million new applications during the 10-day registration drive.

But as the poll body reached the one million mark days before the end of the registration period, it is now targeting to receive around 1.5 million registrations.

“They saw the importance of voting, especially in the May 2025 national and local elections. The youth carried the May 12 elections,” Garcia said on the sidelines of the SRAP at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

The poll body has set the 10-day voters’ registration nationwide from August 1 to August 10, 2025. Meanwhile, the SRAP will run from August 1 to August 7 only.

The Comelec is accepting the following applications for the voters’ registration period:

  • Registration
  • Change of name and status
  • Correction of entries
  • Reactivation of registration records
  • Inclusion of registration records and reinstatement of name in the list of voters
  • Updating of records of persons with disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens, and members of the indigenous peoples (IPs) and indigenous cultural communities (ICCs)
  • Transfer from overseas to local only

Meanwhile, transfer of local registration records is not allowed during this registration period.

Comelec also said that anyone can bring at least one of the following government-issued IDs:

  • Postal ID
  • PWD ID
  • Student’s ID card or library card (with signature of school authority)
  • Senior Citizen ID
  • Driver’s license or student permit
  • National Bureau of Investigation clearance
  • Philippine passport
  • Social Security System/Government Service Insurance System or Unified Multi-Purpose ID
  • Integrated Bar of the Philippines ID
  • Professional Regulatory Commission License
  • Certificate of Confirmation from the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples for members of ICCs and IPs
  • Other government-issued valid IDs

However, the Comelec noted that barangay certification or identification, community tax certificates, Philippine National Police Clearance and Company ID will not be accepted. /das
