Authorities said the debris was first spotted on Nov. 1 around 2 p.m. by a parish priest who, while hiking with an altar server to conduct Mass in Sitio Bibigsan, noticed the object along the beach.

The pair immediately informed local officials, who relayed the report to the Camiguin police substation and the Philippine Coast Guard–Calayan. Both agencies later confirmed the sighting.

The site, located in a remote sub-village accessible only by hitchhiking, was secured for investigation.

The discovery came shortly after the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) confirmed that China had launched its Long March 7A rocket from the Wenchang Space Launch Site in Hainan at 11:47 a.m. on Nov. 1.

PhilSA had earlier warned that debris from the launch might fall within Philippine waters, including drop zones near Dalupiri Island, Burgos in Ilocos Norte, Camiguin Norte, and Santa Ana in Cagayan.

Authorities are coordinating with national agencies for the proper retrieval and examination of the debris./coa
