Trinidad retires from Navy but stays as military spox on WPS

MANILA, Philippines — Rear Adm. Roy Vincent Trinidad has retired from active service in the Philippine Navy but will continue to serve as spokesperson for West Philippine Sea (WPS) issues in a reservist capacity, the Navy said.

Trinidad was honored during a retirement ceremony on Thursday in Taguig City led by Philippine Navy Flag Officer in Command Vice Adm. Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta, according to a Navy statement.

Trinidad will retain his role as the Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesperson on matters relating to the West Philippine Sea in a reservist capacity to ensure continuity in messaging concerning maritime security issues, which are dominated by the country’s dispute with China.

Ezpeleta cited Trinidad’s contributions to Navy operations and communications.

Bolstering public faith

“By underscoring what is right and what is true, he has contributed to bolstering public faith in our actions, as well as fortifying our country’s diplomatic messaging on the global stage,” Ezpeleta said.

Trinidad thanked Navy personnel during his remarks and said he would remain available to assist the service. /das
