MANILA, Philippines – The Senate is set to convene as an impeachment court Monday, May 18, for the highly anticipated trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, a political showdown expected to test not only the strength of the administration coalition but also the stability of the chamber’s leadership.
The proceedings come amid mounting speculation of another possible leadership shakeup in the Senate just a week following the recent ascension to the upper chamber’s leadership of Alan Peter Cayetano.
