Businessmen heed call of Cory

12:07 PM February 24, 2011

FOREIGN and local businessmen will reopen their establishments today in answer to President Corazon C. Aquino’s call for cooperation in rebuilding the country’s tattered economy.

Local businessmen, particularly those who sat in the defunct Philippine Productivity Council (PPC), under former President Marcos, have declared that they will contribute to the efforts of the government — which is supported by the people.

Businesses have remained closed since the outbreak of the people’s revolution staged by Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile and Armed Forces chief of staff Gen. Fidel V. Ramos.Business closures were primarily instigated by the bank holiday which was declared by the Monetary Board last Monday.
