TAPAT rally

12:23 PM February 24, 2011

BACOLOD CITY(Feb. 18) Massive fraud, terrorism and violence which marred the conduct of the presidential elections nationwide last Feb.7 were denounced in a multi sectoral rally sponsored by TAPAT-Negros Tuesday at the Bacolod plaza.

Calling the snap elections a farce, the TAPAT manifesto read during the rally called for the waging of a militant form of struggle. On the other hand, speakers representing a lawyers human rights group, religious and clergy, and the opposition, rallied the Negrenses to an active support of Cory Aquino’s call for civil disobedience.

One of the speakers, former Bacolod Mayor Romeo Guanzon, expressed that if the Negrenses were able to endure hardships brought by World War II for four years, they can easily bear the sacrifices they have to make for civil disobedience during the next few weeks.

Earlier in the week, on Feb. 16, a Tagumpay ng Bayan counterpart rally was held in Kabankalan town by Opposition groups led by Elmer Cordero and lawyer Jose Gapia. During said rally, Oppositionists denounced the thwarting of the people’s will in Negros through massive vote-buying, ballot snatching and disenfranchisement of voters.
