Imee Marcos on pre-election surveys: It’s better to pray

Sen. Imee R. Marcos(Bibo Nueva España/Senate PRIB)
MANILA, Philippines— Sen. Imee Marcos said she would rather pray than pay too much attention to the results of various surveys ahead of the May 2025 national and local elections.
This, despite her making it to the Magic 12 based on the latest senatorial surveys conducted by Pulse Asia and Octa Research in January 2025.
She ranked 4th to 12th in the Pulse Asia survey and landed 5th to 13th in the Octa survey.
But while running under the administration slate as an independent candidate, Marcos noted that there are also other formidable senatorial candidates from other camps.
“Marami ring malalakas na kandidato,” she initially said when asked in a press briefing in the Senate on Tuesday if the 12-0 victory for administration candidates is doable.
(There are also many formidable candidates.)
“Ayoko nagko-comment tungkol dyan. Ayoko ring nagco-comment tungkol sa survey. Kasi ang turo ng ama ko running scared kami lagi as in palagi kami sinasabihan na mangampanya lang, magtrabaho lang, kayod lang at ‘wag masyadog pinapansin ang magandang balita, wag malugmok sa masamang balita,” she added, referring to her late father, former President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.
(I don’t want to comment on that. I also don’t want to comment about the surveys. Because what my father taught me is that we should always be running scared, as in we are always told to just campaign, work and keep going, and not pay too much attention to good news, and not dwell on bad news either.)
“Pero itong mga prediction, mga forecast di ba highly speculative? E kandidato naman ako mas maigi nang magdasal,”Marcos added.
(But these predictions, these forecasts, aren’t they highly speculative? I’m a candidate, it’s better to pray.)
While others get nervous and anxious by their standing in the surveys, the senator said she opts not to get affected by it.
Instead, she uses the pre-election surveys as a guide for her campaign.
