Abby Binay pushes for incentives for companies to hire local residents

MANILA, Philippines — Senatorial candidate and Makati City Mayor Abby Binay has proposed granting incentives to companies that hire local residents as a way of easing traffic congestion and improving local economies.
“Such a policy would create more jobs and increase local economic activity in so-called bedroom communities and address traffic and congestion concerns in Metro Manila,” Binay’s statement reads.
She explained this would benefit San Jose del Monte, Bulacan and other localities adjacent to Metro Manila regarded as “bedroom communities,” where a considerable number of residents commute daily to work in Metro Manila.
Earlier, Binay unveiled her proposal to incentivize local hiring during a campaign stop for the Alyansa ng Bagong Pilipinas in San Jose del Monte.
“Kung meron namang trabaho na dito, hindi na sila kasama sa traffic. Kung may trabaho na dito, hindi na nila kailangan lumabas pa ng San Jose del Monte,” she said.
(If they have jobs here, they would not encounter traffic nor get out of San Jose del Monte)
“Encourage more companies to open in the city and also incentivize those companies that actually hire the local residents in the city,” she added.
