Senatorial candidate and Las Piñas City Rep. Camille Villar has reaffirmed her commitment to championing initiatives that promote women’s empowerment in public and private sectors.

During a recent visit to Luna, Isabela province, Villar highlighted the multiple roles women play within the family, particularly the immense responsibilities that mothers shoulder in managing their households.

“When I served in my district, I prioritized helping mothers because, as a mother myself, I deeply understand the many roles we fulfill,” said Villar, who has two children.

“We take care of our children, our spouses, and often, our parents and siblings as well. We ensure the household runs smoothly while balancing countless responsibilities,” she added.

As the nation celebrates Women’s Month this March, Villar reiterated her call for equal opportunities for women and advocated for policies such as expanded parental leave and better access to healthcare services, particularly in reproductive and maternal health and mental health awareness.

Recognizing the challenges women face in advancing within male-dominated work environments, Villar also expressed strong support for financial literacy programs and vocational training aimed at equipping women with skills to achieve financial independence.

“I have always been in awe of women’s capabilities. I truly believe that men need women, and there is nothing a woman cannot achieve. Despite our many responsibilities, we still find time to enjoy life and gather with loved ones,” she said, earning applause from the audience.

Throughout her tenure as a legislator, Villar has actively collaborated with advocacy groups supporting women’s causes. Notably, she has worked with the Buntis Congress, an initiative dedicated to educating mothers on maternal health, child-rearing, and breastfeeding.

If elected elected senator, Villar has vowed to continue advancing policies that empower women. Among the key measures she has championed is House Bill No. 10697 or the Pregnant Women Welfare Act, which proposes flexible work arrangements for expectant and postpartum mothers.

She has also pushed for the Equal Maternity Protection Act, which seeks to extend maternity benefits to women working in the informal economy.

Additionally, she has pledged to reintroduce a measure that seeks to prohibit hospitals, maternity clinics, or healthcare facilities from refusing admission or assistance to women in labor, a proposal she previously filed in the House of Representatives.

To address maternal healthcare challenges, Villar is advocating for the distribution of maternity kits to low-income pregnant women, aiming to enhance prenatal care and reduce child mortality rates in the country.

Furthermore, she has committed to reintroducing her House Bill No. 5243, which seeks to grant free medical and hospitalization benefits to indigent women suffering from diseases or injuries resulting from gender-based violence.
